Frequently Asked Questions

This is my first experience with therapy, what should I expect?

You can expect a safe, non-judgmental, supportive environment where you will encouraged, challenged, and empowered to make positive changes.

At the initial session, you can expect a lot of questions! Your therapist will explore your history, your needs, and the reasons you are seeking treatment. You will be asked to identify the beliefs and behaviors that are preventing you from living a satisfying and peaceful life. Then, you will work collaboratively with your therapist to develop a treatment plan based on your goals.

What is Virtual Therapy or Teletherapy?

These are terms used to describe psychotherapy or counseling provided electronically by phone, computer or other electronic device, following all guidelines with respect to privacy and client confidentiality. Virtual Therapy or Teletherapy is an effective alternative to in-person counseling.

How long are sessions?

The first session is one hour. You will discuss time and duration with your Therapist to determine subsequent sessions.

How many sessions do I need?

Generally, people begin to feel some improvement within the first few sessions. It is also possible that you may feel worse before you begin to feel better. It is important to remember that treatment duration will always depend on the Client’s individual needs and desired outcomes.

We believe that effective counseling does not have to last forever. Brief treatment with a successful outcome is possible!

Is everything I say confidential?

Therapy sessions are confidential. However, there are limitations to confidentiality when the safety of the client or other persons are at risk. These limitations will be explained during the initial session.

How much does it cost?

Sessions are $150.

Payment is expected at the conclusion of each session and can be made by debit or credit card.

Do you take my insurance?

Loudoun Adult Counseling is in-network with most insurance providers and is considered out-of-network with others.

It is the client’s responsibility to determine if they have mental health coverage and whether it is accepted by Loudoun Adult Counseling prior to the first session.

It is recommended that a client call their insurance carrier and ask following questions: What are my in-network and out-of-network mental health benefits? Do I need to meet any additional deductible? Is there a limit to the number of sessions?

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments must be changed or cancelled at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. You may leave a voice message, send a text, or email.

Late cancellations made less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time and no-shows will be charged a $50 fee.

Life happens! We understand illness and emergencies may arise unexpectedly. For this reason, a client may have one late cancellation or no-show without incurring a fee per calendar year.
